Professor Kate Bertin
Public Speaking course
These workshops were the 4th and 5th workshops we have done with Kate Bertin's Public Speaking class at Chief Dullknife. She requests that we come in toward the end of the term when she is covering debating and persuasion speaking in her class. She has the students debate for their final and our workshops help prepare her students for that event.
Our first workshop session concentrated on argumentation structure and development and our trainers and mentors worked with students in the topic they had selected for their final debate. The second session was concentrated on the elements, burdens and responsibilities in a more formalized debate environment. We engaged in mini debates with the class to help solidify the elements of argument structure and refutation.
We really enjoy our work with Chief Dullknife. It is a smaller class so our conversations can be more focused and helpful. We look forward to engaging with the college next semester and hopefully organizing a debate between Chief Dullknife, Little Bighorn and RMC for the Spring 2015 term.
